Nespresso KitchenAid Overview

Nespresso has two lines of capsule-based espresso machines:

  • OriginalLine: Their original line (duh) that used a 19 bar pump to extract shots from capsules
  • VertuoLine: Their new line that uses Centrifusion (rapid capsule spinning) to extract shots from barcode-enabled capsules but also brews standard coffee up to 17 oz

For our money, OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines because their pump produces more authentic espresso, the coffee tends to be hotter, and there's no barcode scanning system meaning you can find less-expensive third-party capsules.

Tired of plastic or lightweight aluminum-sided machines that don’t have that heft of the standard kitchen appliance from a half-century ago?

Take a look at this behemoth.

Weighing in at 19.4 lbs, the Nespresso KitchenAid model is made for those who want a truly powerful machine. It weighs nearly twice as much as the Lattissima Series, almost three times as much as the Prodigio, and four times as much as the Essenza Mini!

And with a big 1600W boiler, the KitchenAid will heat up and brew you a hot shot in no time.

The downside with this model is you lose a lot of the additional features you'll find on specialty models

  • There’s no integrated frother, which means you need to purchase a separate frother.
  • There’s no wireless connectivity.

However, it does have two big things going for it:

  • Unique design in an attractive cherry-red casing.
  • Signature KitchenAid heft that matches other KitchenAid machines, like stand mixers.
Pros
  • Actual pump pressure is better than VertuoLine Centrifusion
  • Durable exterior and heavyweight design in awesome cherry red
  • Solid internal construction means it won't break down quickly
  • Can used 3rd-party capsules
Cons
  • Stated 19 bars is inconsistent

Is the Nespresso KitchenAid for you?

Are Nespresso KitchenAid for you?

The Nespresso KitchenAid is designed with both performance and aesthetics in mind. If you're looking for a powerful espresso machine that matches your other KitchenAid appliances, look no further.

That is, unless you want an included milk frother. If that's the case, you have 2 options:

  • Get the Aeroccino4 add-on to make your own milk foam for specialty beverages
  • Upgrade to a model with a dedicated frother, like the Lattissima Plus or Creatista

Nespresso Odacio Capsules (VertuoLine)

Nespresso Odacio Capsules (VertuoLine)
Overall Rating: 91
Odacio (Coffee, Intensity: 7) is bolder than the typical light and fruity single-origin African roasts we usually prefer, but it does have a blend of Nicaraguan and Ethiopian coffees for a complex profile.

Nespresso CitiZ

Nespresso CitiZ
Overall Rating: 88
Notable for its 34 oz reservoir, the largest among mid-range Nespresso OriginalLine machines, the CitiZ is a compact, reliable brewer with a powerful heating element. Check out the CitiZ & Milk for an integrated frother.

Nespresso Vanilio Capsules (OriginalLine)

Nespresso Vanilio Capsules (OriginalLine)
Overall Rating: 89
Vanilio (Intensity: 6) is a light, vanilla-flavored capsule that’s great for vanilla mocha beverages. It's a little one-dimensional with the vanilla flavor dominating, but that's why you're enjoying this capsules.
About The Coffee Maven

Bryan De Luca

I'm Bryan but most people know me as The Coffee Maven. I grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts and received my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Providence College. My first introduction to coffee was during my college days, when I used it as a source of caffeine to fuel late-night study sessions, but soon I became obsessed with the chemistry of coffee. How did changes to water temperature or contact time affect its taste? Why do beans from Africa taste fruity while beans from Indonesia taste spicy? I launched The Coffee Maven in February 2017 to explore these questions and help others brew their perfect cup. Welcome to my site, and thanks for reading!
